The annual London benefit took place on September 11th. with live music, dancing, pisco sours and a silent auction of amazing items generously donated. And it was lots of fun!
Thank you to the organizers— Sophie Muir, Christopher Rothchild, Christina Wood, and Alvaro Picaro for making this event such a great success— and to all who made donations. With four years of experience these events get better each year!
Because Kusi Kawsay aims to cultivate community and celebrate life, these community-of-donors gatherings are very aligned with our values as well as being an integral part of our fundraising activities. For example, the fundraising events in London, Seattle and Ann Arbor, combined with other events and donations by individuals in 2013 provided 74% of our operations budget for 2014. We hope you will be inspired to host fundraising gatherings for Kusi Kawsay in your own communities around the world!
This year we are very excited about our fundraising efforts within Peru. And we are very grateful to Ann Beckham who has generously offered to match all donations generated from these events!
Fund raising in Peru began on September 26th at our Annual Public Exposition at the Convention Center. It was a great success, with lots of student participation. Then came our first Open Day Event—a traditional food festival and crafts sale at Kusi Kawsay on October 15th in honor of World Nutrition Day. This public event was designed to raise awareness as well as funds and was made possible by the dedicated participation of the parents of Kusi Kawsay students.
Our biggest fundraising effort will be a musical presentation of the Andean calendar on Nov 30th in Cusco at the Municipal Theater. We invite everyone to sponsor or donate to this event to help us make this amazing opportunity to double our funds a great success!
